with new fervor

I am addicted to Randi Rhodes.

Since I can’t seem to get reception on the AM stations on my drive home from work, I have been downloading the podcasts. I listen to everything a day later, but I get the point anyway.

I have a feeling that much of my posts on this blog, if I create the time to start writing in it again and actually posting my thoughts, will involve my rants after listening to her show.

First, here’s just a smattering of the things that are to come from my fascination with the catastrophe that is the current administration.

1. John Negroponte
The “nation’s first national intelligence director” and his history with the Iran-Contra affair and the Honduran death squad. We all know this guy’s history, right?
In the intelligence hearings, he is unable to answer the question posed by Diane Feinstein “have we ever killed someone on American soil based on information obtained regarding Al Qaeda status?”
“um….(long pause)…uh…(longer pause)…I’m not aware of such a circumstance, Senator.” That’s his answer?

2. Bush’s State of the Union – Wire tapping
What about Bush and his “we would have been able to prevent 9/11 if we had the ability to wire tap” They knew two of the terrorists, they were on the terrorist watch list.
They had a federal agent in Montana (I think) who raised a red flag about a terror suspect wanting to learn to fly a commercial plane without being interested in landing or taking off. At least two of the co-conspirators on the terror watch list were in the phone book.
One of them was on the list when he was allowed re-entry into the United States. All it takes to legally wire tap is a trip to the FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) Court. Why are they so proud of their actions to broadcast and try to sell it at the State of the Union?

3. Bush’s State of the Union – “addicted to oil” crap
This was later retracted the following day. Why? It was the only truthful part of the speech.

There is so much material from everything that is going on right now…

The current hearings on the so-called “wire tapping” and “data collecting”
The newest “Downing Street Memo” reporting by London newspapers on February 4, 2005
The T-shirt incidents at the State of the Union address
The new proposed budget cuts from the administration

The list could go on and on and on.
Why isn’t the news media reporting anything on these and being more “investigative” with their news?

My goal is to make as many people I can start listening to Randi Rhodes and to start doing something, get angry, anything.

I have started by writing to my two Senators (Dodd and Lieberman) as much as I can on every issue that comes up. I sign as many online petitions as I can, but who knows where they end up.

Americans need to sit up and take notice and stop letting this happen. This country is going to be in the worst shape it has ever been in when this current administration is done with it.
What can we do!?!?!?

Coretta Scott King

Today is the funeral for Coretta Scott King.
King should not only be remembered for her incredible husband, but for her own compassion and continued campaign for equality in America. She was a remarkable woman.
She has been a supporter of gay rights as civil rights and I hope that her messages carry on with her supporters and continue to stretch out across the country forever. The way we can honor her is to never give up the constant push.
